It sounds very interesting. Its plot reminds me of CAT AND MOUSE (1967, Hans Jürgen Pohland, A+++++), which also deals with friends before going to war.<br /><br />I also haven't seen PAINTED FACES (1988, Alex Law). I think I used to be confused between this film and THE PUPPETMASTER (1993, Hou Hsiao-hsien), which I also haven't seen.<br /><br />Btw, I just mentioned your article on European cinematographers in my blog. I think your articles are still very useful for me though you wrote it many years ago.
